Loss on Drying vs. Thermogravimetric Analysis Determining the Composition of Flue Gas Desulfurization By-Products

Gypsum, whether it is synthetic or natural rock, has a wide variety of applications in many different industries. One major application is within the construction industry where it is used as both the primary ingredient in drywall as well as a setting inhibitor in cement. Gypsum has multiple states of hydration (Free & Bound) which evolve at low and high temperatures. It is this property that makes gypsum a good candidate for being a fire retardant in dry wall as well as a good candidate for loss on drying analysis in other industries.
