This survey examines client firms’ technical and business needs for particular software applications and the way in which the application services are delivered to clients (e.g., through on-premises hosting, external hosting, or the Software-as-a-Service model).
Sales force automation (SFA) applications are widely adopted by businesses. For the purposes of this survey, sales force automation (SFA) application refers to a software application that is developed with the explicit purpose of automating and streamlining an organization's sales processes (e.g., Siebel or Microsoft SFA applications, but not Microsoft Excel or Outlook). An SFA application usually contains a set of core functions such as account and contact management, lead and opportunity management, activity management, sales process/workflow management, product catalog/configuration, and/or pricing, as well as some complementary functions.
