Plugins: IP Address Tools

Using plugins from this section you can track respondents' locations, save their IP's within a survey if necessary and forbid an access to the appropriate IPs or the range of IPs.

1. IP Address Saver Plugin - Tracks respondents IP addresses.
2. Respondent Location Plugin - Retrieves respondent location coordinates.
3. IP Address Access Restriction Plugin - Restricts or allows access for respondents with particular IP addresses.
4. Location Access Restriction Plugin - Restricts or allows access to the survey or form for respondents from particular countries.

IP Address Saver - This plugin is used to track respondents' IP addresses. To utilize this plugin create an open-ended question within your survey and hide it if necessary using the 'Hide' option from the Questions page of your survey. You can use question either of 'Single-Line' or 'Multiline' type. Then insert plugin and adjust the following parameter:

  1. *IP Address Question - Put the reference to a field of a single line question in Qx.Ay format or to multiline question in Qx.A1 format where IP address will be stored. This is required field.

When respondents submit their surveys IP addresses will be automatically tracked and saved within the indicated question. You can view them by running your survey report.


Respondent Location - It may be very important to know respondents' locations without asking them directly, for example when your survey is anonymous. You can do this using respondents' IP addresses and Respondent Location plugin. Along with this plugin your survey must contain IP Address Saver plugin. Based on the tracked IP addresses, location of each respondent will be displayed to you when viewing survey report.

To make this plugin work insert 'IP Address Saver' plugin using instructions above. Then create a question of the 'Single-Line' type in your survey, hide it if you do not want to display tracked data to respondents. Reference the following plugin parameters to the question fields using Qx.Ay notation:

  1. *IP Address Question - Put the reference to a field of the question where IP address is stored.This is required field.
  2. Latitude Field - Put the reference to a field of the question where location's latitude will be stored.
  3. Longitude Field - Put the reference to a field of the question where location's longitude will be stored.
  4. Country Field - Put the reference to a field of the question where location's country name will be stored.
  5. Region Field - Put the reference to a field of the question where region will be stored.
  6. City Field - This field will save and display name of the city where respondent is located.
  7. Postal (ZIP) Code Field - Put the reference to a field of the question where postal or ZIP code will be stored.
  8. *Output type for coordinates - Choose the way you want latitude and longitude values are displayed to you: DD for degrees, DDMM for degrees and minutes, DDMMSS for degrees, minutes and seconds. This is required field.
Note

This plugin is only used together with the 'IP Address Saver' plugin. IP address question field has to reference to the same question within the survey for both plugins.

IP Address Access Restriction - If you need to allow or restrict access to your survey or form based on the respondents' IP Addresses use this plugin. The following parameters need to be indicated:

  1. *Allow/Prohibit Access - Choose whether you want to allow or prohibit access to your survey to the appropriate IP address or addresses.
  2. *IP Range - Indicate the IP range you want to allow or prohibit access for respondents whose IPs are within the indicated range.
    Use the following format x.x.x.x-y.y.y.y.

Location Access Restriction - Besides restricting the access to a certain group of respondents based on their IP addresses, you can also implement restriction by country. This means that respondents from particular countries will be able to access and submit the survey or form or vice versa.

To apply the plugin, please setup the following parameters:

  1. *Access - Choose whether you want to allow or prohibit access to the survey.
  2. *List of Countries - Enter the country or list of countries separating each with commas. Use two or three digit-characters ISO format. For example: EN, US, FR, RU, UA.

  • Parameters marked with * are required.
  • Autocomplete function allows you faster and easier enter references to survey or form questions. After entering Q or Qx.A system will show you the list of available questions or answer choices. Picked element will be substituted by its sequence number within the survey.
