This section explains what the "Multilingual Survey" feature is and why you should use it

What: This feature allows the respondent to choose the language to fill in the survey.

Why: You can design surveys with the same questions in different languages so respondents can choose their language.

We are about to show you step by step how to implement this feature

To use this feature follow these steps:

  1. Add a question of 'Pick one or 'other'', 'Check all that apply', 'Dropdown box' or 'List box' type at the beginning of your survey. In this question you should ask to select the language for the survey.
    Note

    • If you use a question of 'Check all that apply' or 'List box' type respondents can select several languages however the browser will randomly display the survey text only in one of the indicated languages, most likely it will choose the first of the selected languages in the list.
    • If you create your survey in the languages that are written from right to left (Arabic, Hebrew) no special actions are to be done, survey and report will work properly. But in case you convert collected data to the PDF, insert the <rtl/> tag to all questions that will be translated into these languages before your survey is launched.
  2. List all languages you want to create your survey in as the answer choices. The first answer choice's language will be used as default. The number of languages is not limited, you can use any language you want to create your survey in. Insert tag <language selection="xx"/> next to each answer choice. Instead of xx enter standard labeling of the languages, for example: en - English, ru - Russian, fr - French, de - German, sp - Spanish, mx - Spanish (Mexico) and others.
    Note

    • You must not move answer choices with the languages after the survey is launched.
    • When you insert language tag the 'Display alert messages in' option that is used to select the language for the alerts is removed from the Survey Rules page and becomes available on the 'Survey Translation' page.
    • System alerts that go with the translated survey are available for the languages listed on the Survey Translation help chapter. Any other languages can be used, but no alerts will be translated for them.
  3. When question is created you will be redirected back to the 'Edit Questions' page. Select the Must answer option next to this question to make it mandatory.
  4. While adding the next question select the 'New page' option to display this question on the separate survey page.
  5. Go to the bottom of the 'Edit Questions' page and click the Multi-lingual button to go to the 'Survey Translation' page.
  6. Use this page to create translations per each language. In the 'Select language for translation' drop-down box select the language you are going to make the translation of the text for. Consult the Survey Translation help chapter for detailed description.
  7. Note

    • When respondents open the survey and select one of the available languages survey text will automatically switch to the questions translated to the corresponding language. If any part of the survey translation is missing it will be replaced by the fragment in the default language.
    • Summary report is displayed in the default language.
