Edit Questions

Here you can work with your survey questions, Thank You Page, Internal Notes, Survey Header and Footer and Multi-Lingual options.

Search This option allows you to find and replace question and answer options texts throughout the whole survey. For more details consult the Search chapter.

Link this survey to a profile survey from your account. This will add a new question to the beginning of you survey, asking respondents to enter profile code. For more details consult Common-Password Survey help chapter.

Display answer options and additional question information Selecting this option allows you to see the answers along with each question and additional information such as type of question, scale used (for 'Rate' and '3D Matrix' types of question) and other information.

Name View the details from your survey's Name page by clicking the '+' icon. To make changes to any of these items in real-time mode, click on the appropriate field. To go the 'Name Survey' page click the Edit button.

Add Logo Takes you to the 'Add Logo' page where you can add logo to your survey, upload another logo or remove it. For details please consult the Add Logo help chapter.

Insert This dropdown menu allows you adding survey questions or section headings. This menu is available next to each survey element, so you can insert new item to the place you need. It contains the following options:

  • New question creates new question from scratch.
  • Question from question library navigates you to the questions library where you can browse questions among the available categories. For details please consult the Question Library help chapter.
  • Copy question from another survey adds an ability to select any question from any survey of your account and copy it to the current survey. For details please consult the Copy Questions From Another Survey help chapter
  • Text for section heading to add a section header or additional text to your survey.

New page Select this option if you want to add a page break in your survey. If any survey data is placed automatically to the new page as a result of the logic transition applied, this option will be activated and dimmed.

The question number field. Indicates position number of the question within a survey. This field is editable, which allows you to change the order of single question or multiple questions at once by entering new sequence number. Click Save question position from the pop-up menu to save your changes and apply repositioning.

Preview button opens a specific question in a preview mode.

Edit This button allows you to make changes to a single question and its answer choices. If you already have responses to your survey, you are only allowed to edit questions or answers texts in order to make them more clear or if there is a spelling error. You are also allowed to create additional answer choices if necessary. Otherwise you compromise the integrity of your results.

Note

You are not allowed to delete questions or answer choices that have already been answered by respondents.

If you have not published your survey, or there are no responses yet, you can edit question and answers in any way.

Logic Click this button to apply logical transition to the question. You can use 'Skip logic', 'Branch logic', 'Branch on Range' or 'Advanced logic'. If any of the mentioned logical transitions has been applied, the Logic button will indicate you the type of logic that is in use:

  • GoTo indicates that you have applied 'Skip logic' to this question.
  • Branch indicates that you have applied 'Branch logic' to this question.
  • Range This button indicates that you have applied 'Branch on Range' logic.
  • Qx.Ay.Cz indicates that you have applied 'Advanced Logic' to this question.
Note

If logic button is highlighted in red, this mean the logic is broken and needs to be reviewed.

Add Image Allows you to add an image to survey question. For details please consult the Add Image help chapter.

Alert This option allows you to set up a workflow alert depending on the answers respondents give to the question. For details please consult the 'Email Alert' help chapter.

Copy Allows you to copy the question within a survey. For details consult the 'Copy Question Within The Survey' help chapter.

Delete Survey Question To delete question from a survey navigate to appropriate question and click the delete button, then confirm deleting by clicking the Delete Selected link within a pop-up message.
If the delete button is disabled, this means that there are responses to this question and you are not allowed to delete it from your survey.

If you are not allowed to delete a question or just want to hide it from respondents and use it for internal purposes, use the Hide question option.


By default all your survey questions are optional and respondents can skip them when filling your survey. However you can change question's settings so it become mandatory or mandatory depending on some conditions. Next to each question you will find dropdown box that lists the following options:

  • Allow to skip Select this option to make this question optional to answer.
  • Skip with alert This option allows respondent skipping a question but generates a pop-up alert that notifies about skipping the question.
  • Must answer Select this option to make the question mandatory. Respondents will not be able to proceed to other pages or submit your survey until answer the question.
  • Conditional Must Answer Use this option to create a condition upon which current question becomes mandatory. More details:
  • Mandatory answer options Select this option to make only certain answer choices within a question mandatory to answer. You can apply this option to the following types of question: Rate Different Items, 3D Matrix, Single Line.
  • Must answer all fields option is used to make all items within the 3D Matrix type of question mandatory to answer.

Hide Select this option to hide the question from respondent's view. This is commonly used if you Autofill respondents' data into a hidden question for reporting purposes.

General This option is available for 360 surveys only. Each question within your 360 survey appears as many times as many survey subjects have been added. Questions that are selected as 'General' will appear in your survey only once and will not be used for subjects rating.

Show question numbers in survey adds numbers to your survey questions automatically.

Randomize questions Select this option if you want the questions to be displayed to your respondents in random order.

  • Randomize All Questions - randomizes all questions within your survey.
  • Randomize for Pop-up Show N Questions Each Time - shows indicated number of questions in random order. For example: your survey contains twenty questions, you indicated "10" as a value for this feature, thus only ten random questions from your survey will be displayed to respondents in random order.
Note

  • You cannot randomize questions in your survey if it contains more than one page or uses logical transitions.
  • Questions marked as 'Must answer' and 'Section Header' type questions will not be randomized. They will be placed in the beginning of the survey and their order will be the same as in your questions list.

Internal Notes Here you can enter internal comments which are not shown to respondents and are used for the internal purposes only.

Thank You Page The Thank You page is displayed to your respondents after they submitted the survey. Here you can thank your respondents or follow up with any additional information if any.

Survey Header and Footer You can add a header or a footer to your survey. They will appear at the top and at the bottom of each page of your online survey accordingly.

Multi-Lingual If creating a survey in multiple languages click this button to go to the translation page. For more details consult the 'Multilingual Survey' help chapter.

Preview Allows you to see what your survey looks like. Click to see your progress and to test the functionality of your survey.

Next Click this to move to the Layout page of your survey where you can customize survey color scheme and other design elements.

Back Takes you back to the Name Survey page.

Note

  • Trial users are limited to create 200 questions per survey.
  • The 'Inline Editor' feature allows you to edit questions' and answer choices' text as well as survey name, title and description in a real time mode. Just click on the field you need to edit and customize it without navigating to the editing pages and refreshing current page. Fileds that are applicable for fast inline editing are highlighted with the icon.
